Wim Lamboo (born, Leiden, 1949) and Inge Baauw (born, Rotterdam, 1970) are contemporary artists who live and work in the Netherlands.
Lamboo and Baauw work individually or together as portrait and street photographers and mainly in Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. From 1997 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2022 they stayed annually at the invitation of the Estonian Artists Association in Tallinn as artist in residence in the guest studio of the EAA. During these years they took photos of daily life in the streets of Tallinn, the Kalamaja and adjacent districts Kopli and Port Sadam.
This book contains a small selection of 72 color photos. A series of photographs of the Kalamaja was exhibited in 2016 in collaboration with the Estonian photographer Peeter Langovits at the National Library of Tallinn.
The Kalamaja and adjacent districts Kopli and Port Sadam have undergone a total metamorphosis during these years. Many old characteristic wooden houses were restored houses in a very bad condition were demolished and modern residential blocks have been built. There were also a beautiful promenade and a bike path constructed that connects a number of beautiful historic places, like the Noblessner Quarter with old restored shipyards and buildings, the Seaplane Harbour Museum with the old naval ships and the Suur Toll icebreaker as a monumental showpiece, the prison site of the former Patterei prison complex, which will be opened in 2026 as a memorial museum of the Soviet occupation, the Telliskivi Creative City where many former industrial complexes were transformed in offices, nice bars and Galleries like Fotografiska Tallinn Photography Museum, and of course the not yet restored cultural and sports center the Linnahall.
